When Wal-Mart opened in the mid-1990s at Riverstone Parkway and I-575, the former mill community of Canton got a second wind, with a slew of new shops, restaurants and subdivisions. The town became a hub, and more money was spent there as folks no longer drove as often to Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw for a mix of shopping, dining, movies and recreation.
Now subdivisions are rising north past Canton, which hosts numerous festivals and special events, including celebrations for the Fourth of July and Christmas.
