New Bethany Bend High School Location-Anxiety And Rumors Abound!
With less than 18 months before the new Bethany Bend High School opens in Milton Georgia, rumors and anxiety over the boundary and attendance lines have started. Fulton School officials are adamant that attendance and boundary lines have not been established and have created a process that will seek community input before coming up with a redistricting proposal.
The Fulton School System has set up and scheduled a series of three meetings where local residents can attend and voice their opinions.
The 3 meetings are planned from 7pm to 9pm at the Alpharetta High School.
-February 23rd
-March 16th
-April 13th
For More Information On Bethany Bend Redistricting
The first meeting will provide the community with board approved criteria that shows how boundary lines are determined. Local Milton residents will take part in small group meetings to voice opinions and provide their input. This information will be used by the planners to develop draft maps which are then presented at the next meeting on March 16th at Alpharetta High School.
At the second meeting, local Milton residents will again be able to voice opinion and input on the maps, and based on input, will present this refined proposal at the third meeting on April 13th at Alpharetta High School.

Redisticting Milton School GA
After these meetings are finished, the Fulton School Board will likely receive the staff recommendation sometime in May with final approval around June or early July, giving parents and students of the Milton area over 1 year of advance notice of the new boundary and attendance lines.
A 2009 Post Written November 13th About Bethany Bend High School Plans and Location
Typically, the school system appoints a principal a year in advance of the opening of the new Milton High School in order to allow the new principal to become involved with the community and its residents to work with each other in creating the naming of the Milton High School, as well as selecting the school’s mascot and team colors, which are critical to the identity and uniqueness of every school.
One interesting policy that has just been updated regards how rising Sophomores, Junior’s and Senior’s can determine whether or not they wish to change Milton, Ga. schools based on the new boundary and attendance line. These students have the option to remain at their current school if they feel moving to the new school will create too much of an emotional burden because of friendships that may not transfer with them based on the new lines.

City of Milton Georgia Terminates Services Contract
January 8th, 2011 Categories: Fulton County, Milton, Utilities/Vendors
The City of Milton Georgia terminates its services contract and will now be run by its own City employee’s.
When Milton Georgia became a city and was formed in 2006, a private management company was brought in to manage the transition and control the day to day functions that are vital of any city bureaucracy. The company, CH2M Hill, out of Denver, Colorado, provided the city staff positions, except public safety, city manager and city council.
For More About The City Of Milton
The reason for the termination started to take hold when the economy turned downward. The city’s contract called for a lump sum payment of 7 million dollars due each year. Unfortunately, with less revenue due to falling property taxes, the city of Milton was looking to trim the budget.
When the city of Milton tried re-negotiating the contract with C2HM Hill, the company advised that the contract was non-negotiable. Coupled with that, there were automatic escalations for each additional year the city did business with CH2M Hill, to the tune of 8.2 million for the year 2011, with no increase in performance or services by CH2M Hill to the city of Milton.
Miltons total budget was approximately 17 million this year. With the removal of the private management company, Milton is now run by it’s own citizens, who in this author’s opinion, make the finest employee’s. What are your thoughts?

Tree Huggers Unite In Milton Georgia!
August 15th, 2010 Categories: Deborah's Scrapbook, Milton, The Garden Shed

The Milton Tree Ordinance passed by City Council!
Great news for all of us that were lured to the beautiful city of Milton by the abundance of rolling landscapes, farms and wooded nature. The city council of Milton Georgia has approved a new law that regulates how trees are to be handled on properties.

For any tree over 15 inches in diameter, (which is about the circumference of a persons thigh) the property owner will need permission to chop it down. The ordinance was crafted “to further ensure and preserve the rural characteristic in the city of Milton by retaining as many of our trees as we can”, said Lynn Tully, the Milton GA community development director.

The ordinance, which has working its way through the city council since 2008, also provides for the regulation and approval of tree removal companies who specialize in this area. The ordinance recently passed unanimously.
