The county commission voted 5-0 to approve the zoning overlay district specifically drawn for Taubman’s new mall which will be built at McFarland Road and the Georgia 400. Part of the deal includes two upscale department stores, such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue. The development will also include high-end housing and class “A” office space. Taubman executives have said the shopping mall could be open within 3 years of final county approval.
