The Fulton County board of education has named
Ed Spurka as the Principal for the new Bethany Bend High School in Milton, Georgia.
Bethany Bend is scheduled to open its doors in August of 2012. Ed Spurka is currently the principal at Roswell High School.
The announcement comes right before the start of the redistricting process, which will create new attendance zones for the area high schools.
The school board felt it was important to have a principal in place prior to the redistricting process, especially someone like Mr. Spurka , who is a well known, liked and respected figure in the North Atlanta community. This is sure to excite local parents and students who may be part of the boundary change as Ed Spurka will be a familiar face.
The school board typically looks to veteran principals to open new schools, as it becomes a challenge to pull off the opening of a school, of this size and magnitude. At this time, Ed Spurka is the longest serving principal among area High Schools.

Spurka’s tenure at Roswell High School has been met with great success, as the school has excelled in academics and sports while under his watch, including being listed in Atlanta Magazine as one of the top High School’s in the Metro Atlanta area.
Spurka will be extremely busy over the next couple of months, as he will finish the school year at Roswell High, while at the same time forming a local community committee to help develop the school’s identity, color’s and mascot.
On a personal note, I drive by the new Milton High School on a daily basis and it is a mammoth site. They are just finishing up on the foundation and grading. Framing should be going up in the next month. I will keep you posted!
